Here’s the latest from HWA-NY members…

Marc Abbott and Steven Van Patten explore the black-hand side of nerd culture with co-host, Kirk Johnson, in their new podcast Beef, Wine, & Shenanigans. From their Facebook page:

Carol Gyzander read an excerpt from “Deal with the Devil,” which appears in Across the Universe: Tales of Alternate Beatles, edited by Michael A. Special thanks the sound team, Gordon Linzer and Vincent Collins who both recorded the reading. When selections from this reading are made available online, we’ll be sure to post an update here.

Here’s the latest from HWA-NY members…

Oliver Baer and The Skeleton Rep invite one and all to celebrate the release of Baer’s new book, Letters to the Editor of Cthulhu Sex Magazine, on February 25, 2020 at Otto’s Shrunken Head! From Baer’s invitation for this book launch event:

Letters to the Editor of Cthulhu Sex Magazine (Macabre Ink) is a Lovecraftian tale about the sacrifices needed to create and maintain a cult following. You can try to stave off the madness by buying drinks (we recommend at least one). There will also be books to buy, a performance of excerpts and possibly a visit from Cthulhu itself. Step up, go through the curtain into the back and join the cult.

RSVP and share on Facebook!

Additionally, Baer’s poem “Untitled #x” was recently published in the February 2020 issue of The Brooklyn Rail. Also, after accepting Baer’s story “To Chael” for Hell’s Highway: Terrifying Tales of Tormented Travels, editor April Grey picked his brain as to how the shoggoths have guided his writing. Read the full interview here!

Randee Dawn and Michael A. Ventrella are the co-editors of Across the Universe, a new speculative fiction anthology published by Fantastic Books in early December 2019. The book tells SF/F and horror stories that ask the question, “What if The Beatles had been …?” and features 25 stories from authors including Jody Lynn Nye, Spider Robinson, Cat Rambo, Pat Cadigan, David Gerrold, Lawrence Watt-Evans, Gregory Frost, Carol Gyzander, and Gregory Benford, and features an introduction by Nancy Holder.

Early reviews have been fab, with The Bangles guitarist Vicki Peterson calling it, “A Magical Mystery Tour through alternate universes where the familiar narrative of The Beatles is turned on its head. Or ear. Or ass. It’s funny, irreverent, sexy, and twisted – just like the Fab Four!”
