The latest from HWA-NY members…

NYSF + WIHM = A Great Night of Horror! On Tuesday, February 12th, don’t miss Meghan Arcuri, Alp Beck, Elizabeth Crowens, Amy Grech, Charie D. La Marr, and Kathleen Scheiner reading from their stories in A New York State of Fright (on sale now!) at the KGB Bar to spotlight the anthology and celebrate Women in Horror Month! Hosted by James Chambers and Carol Gyzander.

Marc Abbott recently starred in “Endangered,” a short film in the feature anthology, Theatre of Terror, which is available on Blu-Ray and DVD.

Oliver Baer will be performing “A Conclave of Baer,” poetry set to music, at Sidewalk Cafe as part of the Anti-Folk Festival on Saturday, February 16 at 6:45 p.m.

James Chambers recently signed a two-book deal with Raw Dog Screaming Press to publish a collection of his horror fiction, On the Night Border, in 2019, and one of his fantasy and science fiction stories, The Price of Faces, in 2020.

Teel James Glenn‘s story, “The Occurrence of Fangs,” was published in Crimson Street #4: In the Newspaper. His fantasy story, “There Might Be Blood,” appears in the February issue of Aurora Wolf Magazine. Also, his surreal short story, “Hands of Glory,” and suspense story, “Blindspot,” have been accepted for the 2018 Bould Awards Anthology to be published mid-February.

Amy Grech‘s story “Blossom” was recently published in the anthology, Psycho Holiday.

Tonya Hurley’s podcast series, Stories of Strange Women, has a new episode with Parker Posey. Stories of Strange Women has featured interviews with musician Amanda Palmer; Cassandra Peterson (a.k.a. Elvira, Mistress of the Dark); punk-legend Lydia Lunch; and Kate Pierson of the B-52s. You can find all the episodes online.

Jonathan Lees reports that Chris McInroy‘s short film We Summoned A Demon, screened during the 2018 Final Frame Film Competition at StokerCon, is now available to view on Vimeo.

Steven Van Patten will be appearing at Black Ink–An African-American Book Festival on February 9 from noon to 5 p.m. at The New LaNeve’s, 276 Belmot Ave, Haledon, NJ.

We’re thrilled to officially announce A NEW YORK STATE OF FRIGHT: HORROR STORIES FROM THE EMPIRE STATE, coming JULY 2018 from Hippocampus Press and raising funds to support New York based writing mentorship non-profit, Girls Write Now.

A NEW YORK STATE OF FRIGHT, edited by James Chambers, April Grey, and Robert Masterson presents twenty-four tales of darkness and fear written by New York authors and set in New York City and state. This collection of original and reprinted stories showcases many unique voices in dark fiction and settings from the fashion world of Midtown Manhattan to the sinister history of upstate New York.

The authors, editors, and publisher will be donating all proceeds from the sales of A NEW YORK STATE OF FRIGHT to Girls Write Now, a New York organization that mentors underserved young women to help them find their voices through the power of writing and community. For 20 years, Girls Write Now has matched teen girls with women professional writers and media makers as their personal mentors and has helped their mentees publish in outlets such as The New York Times, Newsweek, and BuzzFeed; perform at Lincoln Center and the United Nations; and earn hundreds of scholastic art & writing awards.

SUMMER DARK Reading Series Kick-Off: Friday, June 1st

Join the Horror Writers Association’s New York Chapter for the first installment of our SUMMER DARK reading series on June 1st!

Friday’s reading will feature: Charie D. La Marr, Marc Abbott, and April Grey

Readings take place at the Oasis Community Garden on West 52nd St. (between 10th and 11th Avenues), from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. *Rain date: June 8th, 2018

SUMMER DARK 2018

Thanks to April Grey, we’re excited to announce the HWA-NY SUMMER DARK reading series is returning for 2018, beginning on June 1st! Each evening will feature three of our chapter’s authors reading from their work at the Oasis Community Garden on West 52nd St. (between 10th and 11th Avenues), from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
